
Making Bathroom Heaters That Actually Feel Good
When you’re designing infrared lamps for a bathroom—especially if babies are in the mix—you run into a tricky problem. You want a ton of heat, but you don’t want to blind everyone in the room. Nobody likes that harsh, sterile glare you get from standard heaters. It’s uncomfortable.
Keeping the Water Out
Since this is a bathroom, water is everywhere. That’s why we stick to IPX5 standards. In plain English? We make sure water jets can’t find a way into the electrical guts of the machine. We use heavy-duty gaskets and sealed quartz envelopes to keep things bone-dry. If a seal leaks, moisture gets to the electrodes, they oxidize, and the lamp burns out way faster than it should. It’s a simple fix, but it’s the difference between a lamp that lasts years and one that dies in a month.
Saving Your Eyes
Most infrared lamps are just… too bright. It’s a jarring light that’s hard on the eyes. To fix this, we use a special coating on the quartz tube or a spectral filter. This basically tricks the light. It blocks out the blinding visible glare but lets the infrared energy slide right through. You still feel that deep, cozy warmth on your skin, but the light stays soft and mellow.
The Trade-off
These units run on your standard 220V-240V line. We also use a focused reflector to push all that heat straight down, so you feel the warmth the second you step under it. But here’s the thing: that eye-protection coating does take a small bite out of the thermal efficiency. You lose a tiny bit of heat to get that visual safety. If you need the room to warm up instantly, just bump up the wattage a bit to make up for it.
Getting it Installed
When it comes to the wiring, don’t cut corners. Use a dedicated GFCI circuit. And while the lamp itself is rated for water splashes, your junction boxes still need to be sealed tight. You don’t want humidity creeping into your walls and causing problems down the road.
