Ever wonder why those ceiling heaters always seem to quit right when you need them most? Most people think the heating element just burnt out. But honestly? It’s usually the lead-wire seals. Here is what’s actually happening: when you crank an infrared heater to full blast, the spot where the electrical wire hits the quartz tube gets incredibly hot. If that seal isn’t airtight, the insulation starts to crack. Once air and moisture sneak in, the wire oxidizes. Then—pop—you’ve got a short circuit. The struggle with cheap builds A lot of these units are put together with basic glues or some low-grade silicone. That stuff just can’t handle the constant “on-off-on” cycle of a factory floor. The metal wire and the glass tube expand at different rates. It creates these tiny micro-gaps. In a cheap heater, those gaps let the heat soak right into the wire. You’ll notice the insulation getting brittle and flaking off like old paint. Once that bare wire is showing, you aren’t just looking at a broken heater—you’re looking at a fire hazard. How we do it differently We handle high-wattage industrial loads a bit differently. Instead of just slapping some glue on there, we use a multi-stage compression seal.
